OTD: The Brewers played … the Brewers?

On June 12, 1977, a regular season matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals took an unusual turn.

The story goes, the night prior to the game, the Royals locker-room was ransacked by a thief. The items looted included gloves, socks, jackets and most importantly, their uniforms.

Having nothing to wear for their game the very next day, the Royals were forced to don the road uniforms of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Luckily for Kansas City, The Brewers had a perfect fix, powder blue uniforms that matched those that the Royals would wear at home.

The only issue was, the uniforms had “Brewers” plastered across the front. But nevertheless, both clubs played in what had to have been one of the most confusing baseball games of all time.

As for the game itself, the Brewers would take home a 4-0 shutout victory.

With a three run fifth and one run of insurance in the eighth, the Brewers would win what must’ve felt like the oddest intersquad match of all time.
