The 2026 NFL season is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9, featuring the two teams that last season ended with.

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will face off at Seattle’s Lumen Field to kickoff the news season, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Defense largely reigned supreme during these teams’ Super Bowl battle back in February. As the game went on, runningback Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the way as the Seahawks jumped out to a 19-0 advantage.

The Patriots showed signs of late in the fourth as quarterback Drake Maye made a few big plays, but it wasn’t nearly enough to make a comeback. The Seahawks went on to secure a 29-13 victory.

Now, the Patriots will have to watch as the Seahawks unveil their championship banner before kicking off the new season. It will mark the fourth time in four years that the two teams from the previous Super Bowl face off in the regular season.
