WATCH: Nationals pull off rare inside-the-park grand slam

The Washington Nationals took the plate in the second inning of Tuesday’s game against the New york Mets facing a 5-0 deficit, but one incredibly rare hit made it a one-run game.

With the bases loaded, James Wood hit a deep fly ball to left-center field, a ball that’s usually caught for an out. But it bounced out of left fielder Nick Morabito‘s glove.

As he collided with the wall and fell to the ground, center fielder Tyrone Taylor kept his attention on Morabito instead of the ball. This allowed Wood and the other runners to make a complete trip around the bases and into home plate.

All of a sudden, a 5-0 game was a 5-4 game and the Nationals weren’t done yet. Jose Tena kept the momentum going with a third-inning solo home run before Washington scored two more runs on base hits to take a 7-5 lead.

There’s still time left for the Mets to redeem themselves, but they’re in the midst of an ugly collapse, highlighted by their opponents’ inside-the-park grand slam.
