Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats has now signed a new contract that will place him among the five highest-paid head coaches in the nation, according to a school announcement.

“Nate Oats has signed a new contract that will make him one of the top five compensated men’s basketball coaches in the country,” athletic director Greg Byrne said in the statement. “Appropriate members of the Board of Trustees have been notified of the proposed terms of the new agreement and it will soon be formally approved through the board process.”
While the details of the contract have not been released, he’ll likely be making over $6 million annually if the new deal truly places him among the five highest-paid coaches.
The signing comes just days after Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd signed a contract of his own to remain with the Wildcats.
Oats’ name was brought up in media discussions regarding the UNC Tar Heels’ head coaching vacancy, but he quickly shut down that idea during a press conference at this year’s NCAA Tournament.
“To me, there’s absolutely no reason to leave here,” Oats said.
The Crimson Tide went on to reach the Sweet 16 before falling to the Michigan Wolverines. Since Oats took over in 2019, Alabama has reached the NCAA Tournament six consecutive times.
He’ll now get a hefty pay raise as the Crimson Tide looks to extend that streak to seven next season.
