Jacob Misiorowski

In what seems to be becoming a normal occurrence, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski made more MLB history on Friday.

During the final pitch of a strikeout against Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, Misiorowski threw a pitch that officially comes in at 104.5 miles per hour.

It’s officially the fastest pitch thrown by a starter in MLB history.

As if that singular pitch wasn’t impressive enough, Misiorowski broke his own MLB record three other times with three more pitches at 104 mph or higher.

It may not be an understatement to say that Friday’s opening frame was one of the most memorable innings for a starting pitcher in the history of baseball.

He still has a sizable gap to close if he wants to reach the overall velocity record for an MLB pitch. That currently belongs to Boston Red Sox veteran Aroldis Chapman, who threw a 105.8 mph pitch back in 2010.

His velocity isn’t just for show, as Misiorowski has been one of baseball’s best pitchers this season. He came into Friday with the most strikeouts in the MLB with 123 while allowing just 16 runs.

With the Brewers four games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for first in the NL Central, Misiorowski’s Cy Young case seems to be getting stronger by the day.
