The matchup was much more competitive in the first half with both sides exchanging buckets. While the Billikens were fresh off a blowout win over Georgia, Michigan’s dominance began to emerge late in the first half.
By halftime, the Wolverines had carved out a nine-point advantage.
SLU kept the game close to open the second half, remaining within single digits until the final ten minutes of action.
That’s when the Wolverines’ size and athleticism proved to be too much for the Billikens. Yaxel Lendeborg helped Michigan open up a 20-point advantage and never looked back.
He finished the game with 25 points and six rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. Aday Mara also played well with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
For SLU, Amari McCottry finished with 14 points and five rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting.
The red-hot Wolverines are now in the Sweet 16 and will face the winner of Sunday’s matchup between Texas Tech and Alabama.
