After the New York Yankees opened the Subway Series with a 5-2 victory on Friday, the New York Mets responded with a 6-3 victory on Saturday to tie it 1-1.

Saturday night’s matchup was a consistent display of hitting from both sides, but the Yankees failed to convert many of these hits into runs.

In fact, the Yankees hade a better batting average for most of the matchup, but also had more errors and allowed more runners to reach home.

The first inning went by quietly before Trent Grisham put the Yankees on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the second. It took a little time, but two Mets runners stole home and took the lead after a wild pitch by Carlos Rodon in the bottom of the third.

They sent back three straight Yankees hitters in the fourth before Brett Baty extended the lead to 3-1 with a one-run RBI double.

It didn’t take long for Paul Goldschmidt to cut the deficit to one with an RBI single in the fifth, but the Mets continued to score runs consistently.

They quickly regained control when Mark Vientos hit a two-run RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.

That’s when the Yankees went cold until the top of the seventh, when Aaron Judge came home off an outfield error to make it a 3-5 deficit.

While both sides were getting on base, the Mets simply found more ways to get their runners home. They put up another run in the seventh to go up 6-3 before holding the Yankees scoreless in the top of the eighth.

The Yankees returned the favor in the bottom of the inning, but the Mets took care of business on defense in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
