LeBron James is reportedly willing to sign a veteran minimum deal

NBA free agency has officially begun and over the last 24 hours, all eyes have turned towards the top free agent in LeBron James.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on Tuesday that James had informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he was playing next season, but that it would be on a new team.

For the first time since 2018, James is a free agent and Charania provided a major update on his future Wednesday morning.

According to Charania, James is now willing to sign a veteran minimum deal of around $3.9 million annually.

This means the 41-year-old is now open to all offers during free agency and plans to weigh all of his options before making a decision.

This decision clearly won’t be financially driven, which opens the door for a reunion on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That Cavaliers have used up virtually all of their salary cap, but making a small trade or two would allow them to keep all of their key pieces while signing James to the minimum.

They’ll certainly have to compete with a number of other teams in these sweepstakes. Ironically, the Golden State Warriors are actively pursuing the four-time MVP and have already been making moves in the hopes of bringing James to the Bay Area.

Wednesday’s update signals to teams that finances won’t be a dealbreaker for James and that he’s more interested in playing on a team that’s actively contending for a championship.
