Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is having a tremendous season, and head coach JJ Redick endorsed him for the MVP award while speaking to reporters on Monday.
“If we continue to finish the season the way we’re playing right now, and he continues to play that way, to me, he is the MVP,” Redick said “His fitness right now is probably as good as it’s been since he was a first or second-year player.”
In 62 games so far this season, Doncic is averaging a league-leading 33.7 points per game to go along with 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists.
He’s been a crucial piece for the Lakers, who have exceeded expectations this season. They currently sit at third place in a packed Western Conference with a 48-26 overall record.
He won’t play in Monday’s game against the Wizards as he serves a one-game suspension for receiving his 16th technical foul of the season. But if Doncic finishes the season strong and the Lakers continue to win, he has a very strong argument as the most valuable player in the league.
