Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has been spending more time interacting with fans after tearing his ACL earlier this month. With the extra free time, Irving has been streaming on Twitch, where he plays video games, reacts to videos and speaks about the current state of the NBA.
He took a moment on Saturday to call out former players who are now part of the media.

“They have lost their way,” Irving said. “There are some former players that just chat sh-t, don’t talk about anything, and just hate on younger players. You see somebody you admire go on TV and say, ‘Get over it because you make more money.’ I’m so sick of that.”

Irving’s comments come just weeks after a viral confrontation occurred between LeBron James and Stephen A. Smith during a Lakers game. That incident took place after Smith called out James “as a father” on ESPN’s First Take, questioning Bronny James‘ worthiness of being in the NBA.
Current and former players alike have been increasingly critical of the way the media covers the NBA in general, claiming that media companies would rather spew hatred and hot takes for attention rather than covering the league positively.
While Irving’s comments won’t move mountains, they speak to the current division between players and media personalities.
