Star outfielder Juan Soto is set to officially return to the New York Mets’ lineup on Wednesday after missing 14 games with a right calf strain, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Tuesday’s news comes at a good time for the Mets, who desperately need help snapping an 11-game losing streak.
Soto was on fire from the plate before being placed on the IL, batting 355/.412/.516.
At 7-15, the Mets currently have the worst record in the National League. Their steak of 11 losses is their longest losing streak since 2004.
While they have plenty of time to pull things together before the postseason, they would be just the fifth team ever to make the playoffs after going on a 10-game losing streak.
