Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been ruled for Game 2 against the New York Knicks due to lingering ankle and hip injuries, per NBA insider Shams Charania.
According to Charania, Embiid has been receiving around-the-clock treatment for this injuries in an effort to play through them, but was unable to participate in Wednesday morning’s shootaround. The specific details regarding the new injuries were not made public.
He put up 14 points in 25 minutes of action during Monday’s blowout loss in Game 1.
The Sixers were without him for the first three games of the first round against the Boston Celtics after he had his appendix removed, but he returned with a vengeance in the final four games to complete a 3-1 series comeback.
Embiid’s entire career has been ravaged by health issues, many of them arising at the worst possible time. These various injuries limited him to just 38 appearances in the regular season.
Philadelphia comes into Wednesday’s matchup hoping to rebound from an ugly blowout, but they’ll have to do it without their main offensive engine.
