Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, head coach Sean McVay confirmed Wednesday.

Watson aggravated a shoulder injury during the Rams’ Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had dislocated his shoulder in Week 3 and missed Week 4.

McVay said team medical staff advised that continuing to play posed a high risk of further damage due to instability.

Watson, 28, has appeared in seven games this season. He recorded one interception and 24 tackles. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, he allowed a 48.5% completion rate as nearest defender — fourth lowest among cornerbacks who faced at least 30 targets.

The Rams signed Watson to a three-year, $51 million contract in March.

McVay called Watson “awesome” and said he had been productive while managing multiple physical issues.

The Rams opened the practice window for defensive end Myles Garrett and tight end Terrance Ferguson. Both participated on a limited basis Wednesday. Garrett underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September and last played in the Rams’ season opener.
