The Cleveland Guardians are calling up former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana to be their starting second baseman against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The 23-year-old was drafted first overall by the Guardians in 2024, becoming the first second baseman every drafted with the first pick. In 24 Triple-A appearances this season, Bazzana has hit .287/.422/.511 with 10 RBI and two home runs.
Bazzana has only gotten better since being drafted, he’s displayed elite hitting power as well as a good eye and solid speed. His arrival comes during a tough stretch for the Guardians, who have lost four of their last five games.
They currently sit at 15-15 and are now one game behind first place in the AL Central.
