Gonzaga Bulldogs guard Davis Fogle scored 22 points to lead No. 15 Gonzaga to a 78–72 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in its season opener Monday night in Las Vegas — the program’s first win against Purdue.

The game was part of the Hall of Fame Series. Gonzaga made 26 of 34 free throws; Purdue made 15 of 21.

Florida fifth-year transfer Xaivian Lee made his Gonzaga debut and scored 18 points. Izan Almansa added 11 points and Braden Huff contributed 10.

Purdue Boilermakers center Daniel Jacobsen led all scorers with 22 points but played limited minutes due to fouls. C.J. Cox scored 11 and Antione West Jr. had 10.

Purdue had won all five previous meetings with Gonzaga. Gonzaga held the lead for most of the game. Purdue cut the deficit to two on a 10–1 run late, but the Bulldogs secured the win.
