Legendary Los Angeles Angels outfielder Garret Anderson has died at the age of 53, the team confirmed on Friday. A cause of death was not disclosed.

“Garret will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Angels fans for his professionalism, class, and loyalty throughout his career and beyond,” team owner Arte Moreno said in a statement. “His admiration and respect for the game was immeasurable. We extend our deepest condolences to Garret’s wife Teresa, daughters Brianne and Bailey, son Garret ‘Trey’ Anderson III, and his entire family.”

Anderson was drafted by the Angels in 1990 and made his MLB debut four years later. He went on to become the Angels’ all-time leader in games played (2,013), hits (2,368), RBIs (1,292), doubles (489), total bases (3,743), extra-base hits (796) and grand slams (eight).

Anderson was a three-time All-Star and a major part of L.A.’s 2002 World Series victory over the New York Giants. He ultimately played 15 seasons for the Angels before playing one season for the Atlanta Braves and one for the L.A. Dodgers.

In 2011, Anderson announced his retirement from the MLB and became a broadcaster for the Angels.
