The Sorsby ruling is truly disastrous. It will be appealed, of course, because one of the fundamental parts of watching a sporting event is believing that it’s as fair a competition as possible — and that no one directly involved has money riding on specific outcomes.

If betting on your own team — really just college gambling in general thus violating a basic tenet — doesn't warrant any punishment, then literally nothing matters any more.

NCAA rules could not be more clear – gamble on your team, and you’re ineligible. This is the standard across all sports.

Yet if there’s a judge that will approve an injunction, it doesn’t matter.
