The San Antonio Spurs are fresh off a heartbreaking loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. Their five-game series loss after a blistering playoff run provided a clearer picture of their weaknesses.
While they’re certainly a very talented team with a bright future ahead of them, their overall fit as a team has come into question since the defeat. This is especially true when it comes to star point guard De’Aaron Fox.

To be fair, he was dealing with an ankle injury in the postseason, but he did not play well at all in the Finals. With 12.8 points per game on 34% shooting, his production was so lackluster that rumors and speculation that the Spurs will trade him have erupted.
But ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said on SportsCenter Monday that he doubts such a deal will actually go through.
“I know there’s a lot of interest in whether they might do something with De’Aaron Fox, but they are committed to him right now as their franchise point guard,” Brian Windhorst said. “And I think they will remain that way.”
Even under the assumption that Windhorst is mistaken and the Spurs truly want to move Fox, his massive contract would make that much harder.
He signed a four-year, $228.6 million contract extension last offseason and his disappointing playoff outing will deter teams from taking on such a financial commitment without superstar-level production in return.
Given the meteoric rise of rookie guard Dylan Harper, it would make sense for the Spurs to want to move Fox in exchange for a two-way wing and a few draft picks.
But according to Windhorst, they are fully bought into Fox as their points guard moving forward.
