The Dallas Mavericks are now refuting L.A. Lakers head coach JJ Redick‘s claim that Dallas’ medical staff scanned the wrong part of Austin Reaves’ body during an MRI he received over the weekend.
“Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on the information provided at the time,” the Mavericks said in a statement to DLLS Sports on Tuesday. “There was no error in the scan performed.”

Reaves sustained the left oblique strain against the OKC Thunder on Thursday and received an MRI from the Mavs’ medical staff on Saturday ahead of the Lakers-Mavs game on Sunday. Redick said he needed two scans after the Mavs scanned the wrong part of Reaves’ body on the first one.
“I don’t know where the chain of command lies with Dallas imaging, but they scanned the wrong area,” Redick said on Saturday. “So [the mistake was] not on our end. We made it explicit what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area.”
In the end, the Lakers did not reveal an official timeline for Reaves’ return, but he is set to miss the rest of the regular season and is likely to miss 4-6 weeks, per ESPN.
His loss is a huge blow for the Lakers, who will already be without Luka Doncic to start the playoffs due to a hamstring strain.
