Cowboys waive cornerback Trevon Diggs

The Dallas Cowboys have released former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs. Diggs will go through the waiver process, and if left unclaimed, will become a free agent.

Diggs was selected in the second round of the 2020 draft and made an impact instantly. He recorded three interceptions in 12 games his rookie year, and in 2021 led the league with 11 interceptions, with two of them returned for touchdowns. This was enough to be named to 2021 First Team All-Pro and his first Pro Bowl. Diggs would add three more picks and earn another Pro Bowl selection in 2022.

Diggs would sign a 5-year $97 million contract extension in 2023, with $33 million guaranteed. However, Diggs would struggle over the next few seasons due to injuries, being limited to just 21 games the past three seasons.

The move comes on the same day that Diggs’ brother, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, was charged with assault and strangulations from an alleged incident on Dec. 2.
