Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce suffered an untimely injury in Monday night’s games against the Colorado Rockies. Ponce was carted off the field after his right knee buckled while trying to field a ground ball.
Ponce lost his balance and his knee absorbed most of the force as his body fell forward. He immediately recoiled in pain before collapsing just past first base. He spent some time on the field before the medical staff carted him off the field.
Monday’s game was Ponce’s first MLB appearance since 2021. He spent the last three seasons playing in Asia, winning the KBO MVP while recording 252 strikeouts last season with the Hanwha Eagles.
He did not return to Monday night’s game and the team has not yet disclosed any details regarding the severity of the injury.
