Aroldis Chapman demands apology from Yankees GM in the event of a trade

38-year-old reliever Aroldis Chapman is having an impressive season on the mound, but it hasn’t translated to success for the Boston Red Sox.

As the team seems to be headed towards a full-on rebuild, rumors that Boston could trade Chapman have recently been heating up.

Chapman’s exit from the New York Yankees in 2022 was not pretty to say the least, as he was left off the playoff roster for New York’s AL Divisional League series for missing a mandatory practice.

While Chapman claimed he received permission from the team to miss the practice, general manager Brian Cashman accused him of insubordination.

When asked about the possibility to be traded back to the Yankees, Chapman reportedly said he would need an apology from Cashman.

“What happened, happened,” Chapman said, according to ESPN. “If something like this were to happen, I believe someone from this organization should apologize first.”

The left-hander was asked if he was referring to Cashman and his response was, “yes.”

His final season with the Yankees was far from productive, but he has since put on a show for the Red Sox. In just under 20 innings this season, he’s recorded 26 strikeouts while allowing just one run.

Ultimately, he understands that a trade is certainly possible. He said he isn’t allowing that to have an impact on how he approaches the game.

“At the end of the day, I have no control over that,” Chapman said to ESPN Deportes about the trade rumors. “And I’m just focusing on being able to play, even though I’m not playing much right now. But I’m trying to focus on that, on trying to get the job done when it’s my turn.”
