Caleb Williams

Can Caleb Williams outperform Matthew Stafford?

Caleb Williams led the Bears on an 18-point comeback against the Packers in the Wildcard round. However, can he keep up this momentum against the Rams?

Williams has had quite the turnaround in year two with the Bears. Under new head coach Ben Johnson, the two have transformed the Bears’ offense from last place in 2024 to sixth in 2025. Williams finished in the top eight in the NFL in both yards and touchdowns, with 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Rookie tight end Colston Loveland has turned into one of Williams’ favorite targets. After a sluggish start to the season, Loveland has finished with 6-plus receptions and 90-plus yards in the last three games. Running back D’Andre Swift finished 12th in the league with 1,087 rushing yards.

However, for Williams, he will be competing against leading MVP candidate Matthew Stafford. Stafford led the league in passing yards with 4,707 and touchdowns at 46. Last week against the Panthers, Stafford threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with just 43 seconds left.

Stafford isn’t the only star on the Rams offense. Wide receiver Puka Nacua was second in the league with 1,715 yards and first with 129 receptions. Nacua had 10 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers, the seventh game this season he’s finished with 10-plus receptions.

All of this firepower has the Rams averaging the most points per game with 30.5, and also leading the league with 268.1 passing yards per game. The Bears aren’t too far behind, ranking top 10 in passing yards per game and points per game.

Williams finished with the most passing yards in the Wildcard with 361. The second half especially Williams came to life with two passing touchdowns and 28 points, with 25 of those coming in the fourth quarter.

Both teams rank in the top five in protecting the football, averaging less than one turnover a game. This game may just come down to who can do it better.
