Cal Raleigh rattles off grand slam in Triple-A rehab assignment

The Seattle Mariners come into Monday with a 7-3 record in their last 10 games and it looks like they may not have to wait long to bringing back one of their best players.

Star catcher Cal Raleigh, who’s been on the injured list with an oblique strain since May 14, rattled off a grand slam during his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Raiders on Tuesday.

Even before landing on the IL, Raleigh had struggled immensely at the plate in the early portion of the season. So Tuesday’s grand slam is a good sign for both him and the Mariners.

After leading the MLB in home runs with 60 last season, his start this year was not pretty. He was batting .161/243/.317 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI this season before landing on the IL.

This cold slump hasn’t been as detrimental to the Mariners as expected, though. They come into Tuesday sitting at first in the American League West.

If he doesn’t run into any obstacles, Raleigh is expected to return to the Mariners’ lineup for their matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on June 16.
