Kansas City Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt was arrested Wednesday night and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. The Chiefs are aware of the incident and so far have not commented on the situation.

Merritt has been accused of “unlawfully, knowingly, or recklessly” causing bodily harm to his daughter, which counts as a domestic violence offense. He is scheduled to appear in Johnson County District Court on Thursday at 2 p.m. Details of the arrest were not immediately available. His arrest comes just one day before the 2026 NFL Draft.

Merritt has spent seven seasons as the DB coach for the Chiefs. He has spent a total of 29 seasons in the NFL, including four years playing as a linebacker.
