It’s also the team’s best 35-game start since all the way back in 1892. That’s when they were the Boston Beaneaters and finished with an overall record of 102-48-2.
It took a while for Atlanta to get going on Sunday, hitting out on their first three batters before TJ Rumfield sent in a runner for Colorado with a single.
But the Braves got to work in the second inning as Jonah Heim slammed a 425′ 2-run homer to take a 2-1 lead. Moments later, Jorge Mateo stepped up next and hit a 407′ home run of his own to extend the lead to two.
In the bottom of the third, Rumfield once again went off at the plate. He cracked a 423′ solo home run to make it a one-run game.
An inning later, Mickey Moniak kept the momentum going for the Rockies with a 2-run 422′ homer to take the lead. Both sides were having their way at the plate, but Atlanta’s hitting came out on top down the stretch.
The Braves put up three more runs in the fifth before two more in the sixth, with many of them being RBI singles or walks.
In the eighth, Moniak hit a 438′ solo homer to give the Rockies their sixth and final run of the day. The Braves sent in two more runs in the ninth inning before retiring three Rockies hitters and completing the series sweep.
