Atlanta Braves designated hitter Jurickson Profar is now facing a 162-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The 33-year-old will now forfeit his $15 million salary and will be ineligible to play in both the MLB postseason and the World Baseball Classic.
Profar served an 80-game suspension last season after testing positive for a hormone that’s normally present during pregnancy and can increase testosterone.
He signed a three-year contract with the Braves prior to the start of last season after having a career year for the San Diego Padres.
Profar is now the sixth player to receive a 162-game suspension since the MLB increased the maximum penalty for repeat offenders to a full season.
His absence will likely bring more pressure to the Braves’ other hitters as they look to improve after a 76-86 campaign last season.
