The Duke Blue Devils made their largest move of the offseason on Tuesday, securing a commitment from Wisconsin transfer guard John Blackwell, he announced on social media.
“It just felt right,” Blackwell told ESPN. “It felt like the right situation for me. I just connected with Coach [Jon Scheyer] on a different level. We built a connection in these past weeks of just talking to him and him selling why Duke is the right spot for me. Me taking this visit was just confirmation on why I should be at Duke.”
Blackwell is coming off a standout season for Wisconsin in which he averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting just under 39% from beyond the arc.
He went on to drop back-to-back 30-point games in the Big Ten tournament while earning a spot on the All-Big Ten third team.
With Patrick Ngongba II returning to anchor the frontcourt and Blackwell joining returnees Caleb Foster and Cayden Boozer in the backcourt, the Blue Devils are shaping up to be an elite team once again.
