Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is out for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and faces uncertainty for Week 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders because of a quad injury and a cracked rib.
Darnold sustained the rib injury on the second play of Monday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears and continued playing before aggravating his quad later in that game. Seattle officially ruled him out for Sunday’s contest due to the quad injury, though the rib injury also influenced the decision.

Drew Lock will start at quarterback for the Seahawks against the Cardinals. Lock missed the previous two games with a right elbow injury and had limited throwing in recent practices. He was a limited participant in Friday’s session — his status on every Seattle injury report since Week 6 — and coach Mike Macdonald said the team managed his reps “more precautionary than anything else.”
Lock completed 73.1% of his passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle’s Week 2 win over Arizona. Darnold missed that game with a glute/hip injury from the season opener against the New England Patriots.
Jalen Milroe, Seattle’s third-string quarterback, has not played in a regular-season game since Week 5 of last season. Coach Macdonald said last week Milroe must be ready to play if needed against Arizona.
The Seahawks’ next game after Week 10 is their bye. Missing both Week 9 and Week 10 would give Darnold three full weeks before Seattle’s Week 12 road game against the San Francisco 49ers.
