Wide receiver George Pickens couldn’t come to an agreement with the Dallas Cowboys on a contract extension, but he will reportedly attend the team’s mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

Pickens recorded a career-high 1,429 yards last season to go along with nine touchdowns. After a career year, the Cowboys locked him in for next season with a franchise tag in March.
He signed the deal shortly after, which guarantees him $27.3 million next season, but he appears to want a long-term extension as he was absent for all voluntary workouts.
With mandatory minicamp beginning on Tuesday, Pickens is reportedly in the building today to complete a physical.
Team owner Jerry Jones said the team is comfortable with Pickens playing out the season on the franchise tag, but that it has “long-term plans” for him.
In fairness to the Cowboys, Pickens has had a few hiccups in terms of his youth and immaturity over the last few years. They temporarily benched him late last season, alongside CeeDee Lamb, for missing curfew while at a Las Vegas casino.
He was often criticized for a perceived lack of effort while on the Pittsburgh Steelers, but most of his issues seemed to be resolved last season.
This may be why the Cowboys are willing to let Pickens play through this season without a long-term extension. It’s now up to Pickens to show them he deserves one.
