More than just about any team in baseball, the Baltimore Orioles are being ravaged by injuries so far this season. These woes continued on Friday when the team placed closer Ryan Helsley on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday and the Orioles also selected right-hander Albert Suarez‘s contract from Triple-A Norfolk as part of the transaction.
It’s currently unclear when Helsley was injured or exactly how long he’ll be out. The 31-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Orioles in December after playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets in 2025.
So far this season, he’s a perfect 7-for-7 on saves.
Baltimore now has 12 players from the 26-man roster currently on the injured list, representative of an injury-start. They are no strangers to health issues, finishing last in the AL East in 2025 after using the IL 39 times throughout the season.
