Top-ranked HS recruit Tyran Stokes commits to Kansas Jayhawks

Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 ranked high school basketball players in the nation, appeared on Inside the NBA on Tuesday and announced his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks.

The highly-anticipated decision came down to three school, Kansas, Kentucky and Oregon, with Stokes choosing to join head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks.

As a 6’7″, 230-pound versatile wing, he’ll replace Darryn Peterson as Kansas’ new freshman phenom. Stokes gets downhill to the rim with ease, thanks to his size and elite athleticism.

What often goes under the radar is his playmaking ability and natural ball-handling abilities. He isn’t a super high volume shooter on the outside, because he hasn’t needed to be.

He offensive bag and physical traits make him an elite scorer, and he’s still a decent shooter on catch-and-shoot looks.

Stokes’ recruiting process was riddled with a brand battle between Nike and Adidas, as well as concerns about disciplinary actions that led to him switching high schools.

Nevertheless, Stokes’ skillset on both ends is well beyond his years. He’ll now join a storied Jayhawks team while being projected as one of the top picks in the 2027 NBA Draft.

James Parker contributed to this story.
