New York Mets off to worst start in 43 years as losing streak extends to 10 games

The New York Mets are now off to a 7-14 start to the season after falling to the Chicago Cubs once again on Saturday. The losing streak is now at 10 games and counting as they’re off to their worst start since 1983.

Saturday’s largely-quiet matchup was tied 1-1 heading into the sixth inning. After two Cubs batters were walked, Carson Kelly slammed a 405′ three-run home run to go up 4-1.

The Mets scored a run later on, but failed to make any further progress and suffered a 4-2 loss.

This historic losing streak is a continuation of the shocking collapse the Mets saw on the back end of last season. After a 45-24 start last year, they’re just 45-69 since.

When asked about his message to Mets fans, manager Carlos Mendoza was honest.

“They have all the right to be pissed and frustrated. They care. Just like we do… I understand how they’re feeling. I’d be pissed too if I’m a fan. I’m pissed. They’re pissed.”

After narrowly missing the postseason last year, pressure is beginning to mount for the Mets to figure it out.
