WATCH: Avalanche score five goals in the first period

The Colorado Avalanche are proving why they are the best team in the NHL, scoring five goals in the first period against the Calgary Flames.

The Avalanche have the best record in the NHL at 48-14-10 for 106 points. They will most likely be adding a 49th win tonight, barring a complete collapse.

As for the Flames, it has been a long season. They sit in seventh in the Pacific at 31-34-8 with 70 points and no chance at making the playoffs.

The teams play two more times this season. April 5 will once again be in Colorado, while April 14 will be in Calgary.
