In a game that started competitively but turned disastrous, the Denver Nuggets suffered a crushing 147-123 defeat to the Miami Heat on Monday night, overshadowed by a frightening left knee injury to superstar Nikola Jokic.
The three-time MVP was dominant in the first half, pouring in 21 points on 9-14 shooting, along with eight assists and five rebounds, helping Denver rally from an early deficit to tie the game at 63 at halftime.

But with seconds left in the second quarter, disaster struck: teammate Spencer Jones inadvertently stepped on Jokic’s left foot while defending Jaime Jaquez Jr., causing Jokic’s knee to hyperextend awkwardly. The Serbian big man collapsed, clutching his knee in visible pain, and limped to the locker room.
Jokic did not return, ruled out for the second half with a left knee injury. Without him, the Nuggets crumbled, as Miami exploded for 84 second-half points. Norman Powell led the Heat with 25 points, while Nikola Jovic added 22 and Jaquez contributed 20.
Already missing starters Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, and Cameron Johnson, Denver’s injury woes deepened. Jokic, averaging a league-leading triple-double pace (29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 11.0 assists), is set for an MRI and further tests. Coach David Adelman called it “gut-wrenching,” emphasizing the concern for their star.
The loss snapped Denver’s 11-game win streak over Miami and dropped them to 22-10. Nuggets fans now anxiously await updates on Jokic, whose health could define their season.
