NBA issues warning to Ja Morant over finger-gun gesture

During Tuesday night’s intense matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant and Buddy Hield pointed finger-guns at each other while trash talking late in the game. Given Morant’s troubled history with firearms, the league decided to launch an investigation into both players.

NBA insider Shams Charania revealed on Thursday that neither player will receive any punishment other than a warning.

“NBA issued warnings—no further penalties—to Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Warriors’ Buddy Hield along with both teams for gestures on Tuesday night, sources tell ESPN. League ruled the celebrations were not intended to be violent in nature, but inappropriate and should refrain,” Charania reported on X.

Given how tightly contested the Western Conference is, both squads are certainly happy that neither Hield or Morant received a suspension.

Morant has already received multiple suspensions in the past for incidents involving firearms but aside from Tuesday’s interaction, he’s seemingly learned his lesson.
