Even though LaMelo Ball outdueled Damian Lillard in Friday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Charlotte Hornets lost in a blowout, 130-99. Without question, the Milwaukee Bucks are one of the best teams in the NBA. The team is led by Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bobby Portis (who is the most underrated player on the Milwaukee Bucks). However, such an embarrassing defeat is unacceptable, and one can only hope that it’s not a sign of more of the same to come. Hornets fans had to endure a horrible last season; they need to experience much better play this season.
LaMelo Ball’s performance, however, was brilliant. Such a performance demonstrates why the team’s executive leadership entrusted him with a five-year maximum contract totaling $260 million.

LaMelo Ball outdueled Damian Lillard
In 35 minutes, LaMelo Ball had 37 points, five rebounds, and five assists. He went two for nine from behind the three-point line, which is an awful shooting night behind the arc. He did, however, have an excellent night at the free throw line, going 11 for 12. In 31 minutes, Damian Lillard had 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Most importantly, Dame led the Milwaukee Bucks to victory.
To be frank, Ball didn’t have much help against the Bucks.
Same Ole Charlotte Hornets?
I have argued many times that the Charlotte Hornets need better first quarters to become playoff contenders. The Hornets actually outscored the Bucks 37-28 in the first quarter but were outperformed in the remaining quarters. It’s not enough to have an impressive first quarter and suck the rest of them. The team must be competitive throughout each game to avoid another disappointing season.
Parting Thoughts
As LaMelo Ball continues to deliver superstar performances, he will need his teammates to give him the support necessary to win games. If not, Hornets fans will hear and read about how well Ball plays and how the team keeps losing. To end on a hopeful note, the Hornets have the players necessary for a much improved season.
