Desmond Bane

Orlando Magic trade for Desmond Bane

Desmond Bane walks to locker room after game
Grizzlies' Desmond Bane (22) walks off the court after the Thunder defeated the Grizzlies 117-115 in Game 4 to win the first-round NBA playoff series at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

The Orlando Magic are looking to make a splash. Even with the season not officially over yet, the Magic have made a trade for Desmond Bane.

Earlier today, it was reported that the Magic traded for Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks, and a first-round pick swap.

This trade was certainly unexpected but it appears to be a good move, especially for the young Magic. Orlando finished the 2024-25 season with a 41-41 record.

The Magic made the postseason as the seventh seed and lost to the Boston Celtics in five games in the first round. It was their youth and lack of experience that really hurt them in the series against Boston.

By adding Bane, they get a player who averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. Also, they get a player who has four years of experience in the postseason, and battled against some tough competition out in the Western Conference.

Bane also adds toughness to the Magic, something that can help them during the long haul of the NBA season.

Will this trade make the Magic a contender in the Eastern Conference next season?
