The New York Knicks destroyed the Boston Celtics 119-81 in Game 6 of their second-round matchup on Friday, punching their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals against a long-time rival, the Indiana Pacers. It was the largest playoff win in New York Knicks history.
Boston’s offense led a balanced effort in Game 5 without Jayson Tatum, who is out for the remainder of the postseason and could miss all of next season with a torn right Achilles tendon. Unlike their previous win, Tatum’s absence was glaring on both ends of the floor.

Friday’s matchup was a close one early as both offenses took some time to get up and running in the first quarter. After opening up a six point lead in the opening frame, the Knicks took control of nearly every aspect of the game and never looked back. The Knicks’ defense was coordinated, holding the Celtics to 36% shooting from the field.
New York’s largest lead was 41 points as they secured the blowout win.

Jalen Brown led the way for the Celtics with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, but fouled out with just under three minutes left in the third quarter.
The Knicks’ victory was a balanced effort led by Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby with 23 points apiece while Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 21 points and 12 assists. Four Knicks finished the matchup with 20 points or more.
The crushing defeat marks the beginning of an important offseason for the Celtics as they have several players becoming free agents.
For the Knicks, they’re now set to face a tough Pacers squad in the ECF for a spot in the NBA Finals.
