The Phoenix Suns were very active at the trade deadline this February, but didn’t move any of their three stars. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Phoenix struggled to move Kevin Durant because they were asking for too much from teams in return.
“That is why at the trade deadline the Suns held talks with a handful of teams about Durant trades, conversations that are likely to lead to action this summer,” Windhorst wrote. “One of the reasons there wasn’t a Durant trade in February — other than Durant himself making it clear he didn’t want one — is the Suns were looking for a massive haul in return, per sources.”

The Golden State Warriors reportedly had a deal in place before Durant blocked it, not wanting to be traded in the middle of the season. Had that trade taken place, it would have made the Warriors instant title contenders.
Durant and the Suns are expected to work together this summer to get a deal done. He is set to make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.
