Man who scammed Dwight Howard for millions sentenced to prison

A Georgia business man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday after he scammed former NBA veterans Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons out of millions of dollars.

Calvin Darden Jr was found guilty in October for cheating Howard out of $7 million in a fake investment plot to purchase a WNBA franchise. He was also found guilty of scamming Parsons out of $1 million by claiming that they money would go towards the development of then-prospect James Wiseman.

A Manhattan judge has ordered Darden to forfeit $8 million, as well as several luxury items he acquired with the fraudulent money, including a $3.7 million Atlanta mansion, $600,000 in artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat and several luxury sports cars.

Darden was ultimately convicted by a jury of wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering charges.

He was previously convicted of fraud on two occasions, once in 2005 and again in 2015.
