Last week, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic sustained a left calf contusion during a workout, according to the Mavericks’ PR page on X.
Additionally, Doncic has been ruled out for tonight’s preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies. Many of Dallas’ other top players, including Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson, will also miss the matchup.

Despite the news, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that Doncic’s injury isn’t a huge concern for the Mavericks.
“Sources say there is no concern about Luka Doncic being ready for the Mavs’ regular-season opener.”
Last year, the Mavericks reached the NBA finals for the first time since 2011, but would lose to the Boston Celtics in five games. This year’s roster is deeper and seemingly surrounds Doncic with more talent than ever before. If their Doncic-Irving-Thompson trio stays healthy and their supporting cast is consistent, it will be an exciting season in Dallas.
