Ty Jerome’s Volatile Scoring Sparks Fantasy Trade Debate

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome is averaging 27.4 points but with extreme swings — fueling fantasy trade decisions and Most Improved Player betting interest.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome is averaging 27.4 points per game early in the 2026–27 NBA season — up from 19.7 points per game last season — but his fantasy value remains uncertain due to sharp performance fluctuations.

Jerome led the NBA in scoring after Week 1 with 34.7 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 three-pointers per game. In Week 2, he played just two games — averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 assists and 1.0 three-pointer in 27.0 minutes — and missed one contest with back soreness. That same week, he scored 40 points with five assists, five rebounds and five three-pointers.

He ranks 25th in the ESPN Fantasy Player Rater, 16th in fantasy points per game and 30th in total fantasy points in standard points leagues.

Jerome averaged 19.7 points and 5.7 assists in under 23 minutes per game last season. His elevated output this season reflects expanded minutes as Memphis’ primary ballhandler and shot creator. The Grizzlies consistently grant him offensive freedom, including on difficult, high-difficulty attempts — a factor that contributes to both his standout performances and low-output games.

Fantasy analyst Andre Snellings wrote that Jerome’s realistic seasonal fantasy range is 15th to 40th overall, factoring in production variance and injury history. Snellings advises trading Jerome only when receiving top-15 value and acquiring him only at roughly 40th-value cost.

Snellings noted that Jerome holds the shortest odds (+250) among all players for NBA Most Improved Player at DraftKings. That bet requires him to appear in at least 65 games — a threshold he has reached just once in his first seven NBA seasons.

Why It Matters

Jerome’s situation shows how increased role — not just volume — can unlock unexpected fantasy impact. His elite per-minute efficiency last season signaled latent potential now being realized. But his injury history and inconsistent availability mean managers must balance upside against reliability, especially in season-long formats where missed games compound quickly.
