At 11:50 a.m. MLB announced via X that Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Tarik Skubal, who was put on the IL on May 4. Will start his first game after the surgery on Saturday.

Skubal was sidelined after undergoing a surgery to remove what the Tigers’ injury report calls a “loose bone in left elbow”.

The two-time Cy Young winner has once again continued to put up “Skubal-esc” numbers while on the bump.

This year through his 43.1 innings pitched, he sits at a 2.70 ERA/.946 WHIP/K9 9.3. Racking up 45 strikeouts and just six walks.

With Skubals FIP sitting at 2.11 and the Tigers really struggling this season, it’s almost certain that he’ll will be shipped out before the trade deadline on August 3.

Skubal’s first outing since the surgery comes against division rival Cleveland. The two cities have gone back and forth in recent years, with the Guardians erasing a 15.5 game deficit in the division last season to cap off one of the most spectacular division titles in history.

Cut to just a few days later, the Tigers would send those same Guardians packing after securing in the Wild Card after securing a 2-1 series win.

If Skubal can continue to perform at an All-Star level, teams may be willing to pay a premium come August.
