The North Carolina Tar Heels intend to hire former NBA coach Mike Malone to be the team’s next head coach, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Malone spent 10 seasons as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets and coached them to their first ever NBA championship in 2023.
He was fired by the Nuggets prior to the playoffs last season and later joined ESPN as an analyst. Malone is already familiar with the school as his daughter is currently a volleyball player for the Tar Heels.
He’s now set to replace Hubert Davis, who was fired by the Tar Heels after they fell to VCU in the opening round of this year’s NCAA Tournament.
