Several high-level NBA coaches have been fired this season, most notably was Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone, who was fired on Tuesday just 11 days before the playoffs. Golden State Warriors HC Steve Kerr points the finger at a new front office trend around the league.
“I think one thing that’s happened is most teams are now owned by billionaires, big corporations,” Kerr said to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s game. “So, we’re all more expendable. There’s so much money in the business right now. There’s pluses and minuses to that. We’re all making bigger salaries than we were five years ago, but we’re much more vulnerable, because I think a lot of owners aren’t that concerned with firing a guy and paying him off to go away.”

Kerr also noted his reaction to Malone’s firing.
“It doesn’t seem right, but this is the business we’re in. We’re all going to suffer a similar fate at some point, that’s kind of the way it is.”
Kerr is one of just two coaches to win a championship in the last decade and still be with their respective team. The other coach is Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla.
While Kerr and the Warriors’ front office still seem to be in harmony, we’ve learned this season that no NBA coaching job is secure.
