Steelers reportedly give Aaron Rodgers new unofficial deadline

As the NFL offseason rolls along, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly given quarterback Aaron Rodgers a new unofficial deadline for him to make a decision on his future.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have asked Rodgers to give them a decision by the start of the team’s OTA’s, which is May 18.

Initially, the team expected him to make a decision by the combine in February, but set a new deadline of the NFL draft when the combine came and went without a verdict from Rogers.

Once again, he kept quiet as April’s draft took place.

In the meantime, the Steelers made a move in preparation for Rodgers’ potential retirement. They drafted Penn State QB Drew Allar in the third round of the draft, adding him to the QB room alongside Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.

The news comes just six days after the Steelers used the rare right-of-first-refusal tag on Rodgers, giving them the right to match any offer that another team gives him.

If Rogers remains unsigned by the start of training camp, Pittsburgh will have his exclusive negotiating rights.

It’s still hard to predict what Rogers will decide regarding his NFL future, but the Steelers seem to be preparing for his potential retirement.
