Browns QB Shedeur Sanders changes back to No. 2 jersey ahead of 2026 season

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is changing back to a familiar jersey number next season. The Browns announced that Sanders will wear No. 2 next season, a callback to his jersey number throughout high school and college.

Sanders has worn the No. 2 since high school before wearing it at Jackson State and eventually Colorado. He wasted no time revealing the number change on his own social media.

Sanders is currently one of multiple options to be the Browns starting QB next season, according to head coach Todd Monken.

“I think what you see is elite playmaking ability. That’s in him. You’ve seen it. We’ve seen it. You saw it in college. You saw it on tape last year. Sure, there’s a ways to go, but what rookie isn’t?” Monken said. “I mean, what first-year player doesn’t have a long way to go? So I’m excited to get started with him and all of our quarterbacks and all of our players.”

Sanders started seven games for the Browns last year after Dillon Gabriel went down with a concussion.

He didn’t put up the same passing numbers as he did in college, but he demonstrated poise under pressure and showed flashes of elite passing.

His No. 12 jersey was already a best-seller among rookies last season, so he’s likely to be near the top of that list among sophomores next season.
