Shai Gilgeous-Alexander achieved the unthinkable. He broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record for the most consecutive 20-point games in NBA history. That record now stands at 127 games after SGA dropped 35 points against the Boston Celtics.
Despite SGA having a dominant game, the Celtics pushed the Thunder to the limit, thanks in part to Jaylen Brown‘s 34 points. Boston had a chance to force the game into overtime as the score was tied at 102-102 with under 10 seconds remaining.
All the Celtics had to do was get a defensive stop. They wouldn’t.
Chet Holmgren grabbed Alex Caruso‘s missed three, and was fouled. He went to the line and connected on two free throws.
The Celtics had one last chance, but Payton Pritchard‘s shot missed everything. The Thunder escaped with the 104-102 victory, while SGA made history.
