Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award, per NBA insider Shams Charania.

SGA is now just the 14th player in NBA history to win back-t0-back MVPs, with the official announcement expected before Sunday night’s Game 7 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons.

He takes home the trophy after leading the Thunder to a league-best record of 64-18 while being the league’s second leading scorer with 31.1 points per game. Gilgeous-Alexander also averaged 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game, but what made this season so statistically impressive was his efficiency.

Once again, he was one of the most efficient players in the league at a blistering 55.3% shooting from the field, the most in the NBA among guards this season.

Even beyond that, his numbers are incredibly historic. He became the first player since the 1960s to score 20+ points in every game of a season while leading the league in plus-minus by over 100 points.

In terms of guard scoring that’s both high-volume and efficient, SGA is putting himself in some historic conversations.

He was already named the Clutch Player of the Year this season after leading the league in both clutch points and clutch field goals made.

With back-to-back MVPs under his belt, SGA will now look to lead the Thunder to their second straight NBA championship.
